Vinegar

Vinegar is cheap and highly effective when used to deodorize, disinfect and to remove stains. Straight vinegar can be used to remove the lime and mineral deposits on shower heads. Mold on walls and showers can be removed with vinegar. Vinegar is a great cost-effective alternative to using carpet cleaner shampoo. Mix a cup of hot water with a cup of warm vinegar to use as a carpet cleaner. The smell will remain in the carpet for a short period of time, however once it is dry the vinegar smell will disappear.

Baking Soda

Another staple you probably already have in your home is baking soda. Baking soda is used to remove dirt and grime, grease and carpet stains. If you have a pet stain on your carpet, you can mix 1/2 cup of vinegar with a 1/2 cup of baking soda. The baking soda pulls the stain out of the carpet and the vinegar will remove the odor and the stain out of your carpet. Baking soda can also be used to stained teacups or coffee mugs, greasy grills or charbroilers and grates on ranges.

Lemons

By using lemons, the acid works to remove stains. When mixed with salt, it works as a scour to remove tough grime and buildup. When washing your dishes, you can add a few drops of lemon juice to your soap to help cut through the grease on your pots and pans. Garbage disposals can be cleaned and when you cut a lemon in half and run it through the disposal. Lemons can also be used to brighten your whites, when washing laundry, add a cup of lemon juice during the rinse cycle.
