About Alternative Therapy for Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis often occurs in the elderly due to a lack of essential nutrients in the bones, such as calcium. This can cause the bones to become weak and brittle over time leading to accidental injury due to a fall or other accident. This condition has alternative treatment methods that can help treat the condition and strengthen the bones of someone suffering from osteoporosis.

Therapy

There are many therapies that can be used in place of conventional treatment methods in order to strengthen the muscles around the affected bones. By strengthening the muscles, less pressure is put on the bones, which can decrease the chance of injury due to the brittle condition of the bone's density.

Vitamins

The main reason that osteoporosis occurs is due to a lack of sufficient vitamin D and calcium that the bones require in order to stay healthy and strong. As we age it is important to ensure that we have sufficient amounts of both of these in order to help prevent osteoporosis from occurring. Once the condition is present, it can be treated with supplements of vitamin D and calcium to help strengthen the bones. You can purchase calcium and vitamin D supplements at your local pharmacy or discount store inexpensively.

Exercise

Exercise daily performing a variety of activities that are weight bearing. You want to build up the density of the bone as well as strengthen the muscles around it. Activities such as light hand weights, walking and stretching are great exercises for someone that has osteoporosis. This may not cure the condition, but it can increase the density of the bone which will decrease the likelihood of an injury by strengthening the bone's density.
