The Importance of the Brake System

The braking system of an automobile is arguably the most important aspect of the car. The braking system is responsible for stopping the car when needed, and are especially crucial in an emergency. The brakes must be in good enough condition to stop the car quickly. Without proper care and maintenance, the brakes on a car can fail, and they will usually fail when they are needed the most because of the extra pressure created during a quick, hard stop.

How the Brake System Works

The brakes of a car are not a very complicated system and has not changed very much over the years. The braking system consists of the pedal the driver pushes when they need to slow or stop the car. When the driver steps on the pedal it forces brake fluid through the brake lines causing the brake pads to close on the rotors in a pinching motion, which slows the car. In the case of drum brakes, the pads are pushed out against the drum, which slows the car. There is also a master cylinder, which is the part of the system most of the fluid is found, it creates the pressure that moves the pads when the pedal is depressed inside of the car.
