About Cellular Phones

Today, a cell phone is almost as natural to own as a pair of jeans or some jewelry. A cell phone helps keep you connected to friends and family along with other important people in your life. Today they are more common then a basic landline phone. Cell phones are not just for communication anymore, they offer so much more.

The first cell phone was invented by a man named Martin Cooper. Cooper also made the first call using his newly created cellular device. He was working for Motorola when he created the prototype for the first cell phone. The first phone was released in 1973. The large brick like phone weighed over two pounds and was a Motorola Dyna-Tac. Unlike the phones of today, the talk time was only about thirty-five minutes and took ten hours to recharge. There was also no display. Today, cell phones can do so much more; they are not just for talking anymore.

Alarm Clock

Cell phones today come equipped with an alarm clock. Having an alarm on a cell phone that is carried at all times helps to keep a person organized. This comes in handy when traveling on vacations or staying the night somewhere at short notice. This eliminates the need to depend on someone to wake you at a certain time.

SMS Text Messaging

Another way the cell phones help with communicating is with SMS text messaging. Text messages are short typed out messages that can be sent from one phone to another via the wireless network. Text messaging is a handy tool because if one person is unavailable they can still see a message and can quickly answer and not have to stop to answer the phone.

Calendar

For the highly organized person a calendar on the cell phone is a useful tool. A calendar on a phone will allow for tasks and important appointments and reminders to be entered into different dates. When entered at specific dates and times, the data entered can be set with an alarm reminder.

Cell phones today have the capability of streaming TV on them. Some providers allow for watching full shows and others allow for actual TV channel watching.

GPS

A cell phone can be used to track location as well as get directions to a desired address. Some phones come with the GPS applications pre loaded on the device. Some need to have the applications added from the wireless provider site or another site. The wireless provider may charge a separate fee for the GPS service.

Social Networking

Many cell phones today allow for the download of different social media applications. Examples are Facebook, Myspace and Twitter. When downloaded, the sites work much the same as they do when accessing them from a computer. This allows a person to log-in and check messages and other information without having to be attached to a desktop or laptop.

Mobile Web Browser

A browser on the phone allows for surfing the web and checking out fun websites without the need of the computer. Using the browser, doing research on a topic with different search engine is easy.

Games

Most phones come with a few games preloaded on them. Most wireless providers allow for customers to download games to the device for a fee. Games for cell phones today are colorful and have good graphics. It is nice to have them on a phone for the times when you need something to keep busy.

Camera

One of the most used features on cell phones today is a digital camera. Some cameras have up to 8.1 megapixel. The great advantage to the camera on a phone is that the pictures can be directly uploaded to social network sites. The pictures can also be shared between friends by sending messages with the pictures attached.
