About Chrysler Minivans

Chrysler minivans have long been used by families for transporting their kids. Some families have turned to using SUVs, but there are still many families using Chrysler minivans. A variety of Chrysler minivan models have been made throughout the years.

In 1983 Chrysler introduced the Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager. Chrysler had a strong hold on the minivan market in the early days with a 45 percent market share. Many people liked Chrysler minivans in the early years because they offered features that were normally just available in cars like power windows and doors.

1991 saw major changes to the design. There were major changes to the anti lock brakes, steering and suspension. Chrysler started producing minivans in Austria in 1992 where the turbo diesel Voyager was later introduced in 1993.

1996 involved more major changes. The new designs allowed for much more interior space. Reliability and comfort were also increased with the new design. A new 2.4 liter engine was also introduced that provided better low end torque.

More powerful engines were introduced by the turn of the century. The 3.3 and 3.8 liter motors were introduced on January 10th, 2000. They produced 180 and 245 horsepower respectively.

The 2005 models featured a long wheelbase that allowed the rear seats to fold down for more cargo space. This feature became very popular and greatly increased Chrysler’s minivan sales.

The newer 2011 models have a brand new 3.6 liter V6 motor that has increased both power and fuel economy.
