How Does an Online College Work?

About Community Partnerships With Colleges and Universities

Many colleges and universities partner up with local businesses and other community based programs in their area to provide a sense of unity. College students that have valid student ID will often get discounts for visiting these locations, and the businesses support the college or university by not only giving students discounts but by offering them support in other ways as well.

Community Programs

Many colleges and universities provide community programs that give students the chance to go out and beef up their community service resumes. There are several community partnerships that students can participate in depending on their time: tutoring in high schools, historical renovation, park clean up and volunteering at events are just a few of the programs available to students.

Student Discounts

Many local businesses provide students with discounts on popular items as long as they have valid student ID. This helps students to support small businesses and the incentive is often enough to entice students to purchase a school ID card. One of the most common discounts provided is for public transportation. For instance, at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, students that pay for the student sticker get to ride the bus for free all quarter.

Community Sponsorship

Often times, when colleges and universities partner with local businesses and programs, these businesses will sponsor sports and academic teams, while the school helps the local company or program by helping to increase business. This is a win/win for everyone involved, because students are getting the support their team needs and businesses are getting the recognition and local support that keeps them afloat.
