About Concealed Weapons Laws
Concealed weapons can be the most powerful defense of a human life. There are many laws and regulations concerning concealed carry laws. These laws vary from state to state and are subject to local and federal laws as well. Without a FOID card and documented training a person carrying a weapon will likely face jail time and fines.
Purpose
It is a right under the second amendment to keep and bear arms. This right comes with much responsibility. To be able to carry a concealed weapon for personal defense a law-abiding citizen must register themselves with the federal government by means of a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card. A special concealed permit must also be obtained which requires a full criminal and mental health background check. These precautions are to stop illegal attackers from legally owning a gun, which helps curtail illegal use. Special tests are also given that include: individual training, written tests and shooting tests. Without obtaining all the required documentation, anyone carrying or brandishing a gun will be treated as a criminal.
Variance of State Laws
Even though under federal law a person with the proper documentation is allowed to own a gun, not every state supports concealed carry. Most state laws concerning concealed weapons are more restrictive in democratic states, while republican states tend to favor a non-restrictive policy. It is the responsibility of the carrier to ensure that they are familiar with specific state laws and abide by them.
Police or Personal Protection?
The question asked by many is "If the police are supposed to protect me why should I own a gun?" The best answer is "What would you do when you call, but no one comes?" Survivors of an attack will testify that without a personal defense weapon they might not be alive today. Guns can protect against an animal attack or can be used to defend against anyone threatening a life with bodily harm. It is in everyone’s best interest to protect the lives of friends and family as well as their own everywhere they go. You might not expect to be in such a situation, however being prepared is always best.
Personal Responsibility
Those who legally carry a concealed gun are held to a higher standard of judgment by society. It is not acceptable to bare a gun unless there is justification that a person's life is in immediate danger. A gun is only to be used as a last resort, however it is the most powerful personal defense known. With proper knowledge and documentation, you too can physically protect yourself.
