About Covert Hypnosis

Have you heard about covert hypnosis and wonder what it is all about? It is not the normal type of hypnosis that you think of where you go into a trance-like state to help jog your memory. Covert hypnosis is also called conversational hypnosis and specific techniques are used in conversation to move the other person to think like the one using the hypnosis.

How Covert Hypnosis Works

We'll assume you are the hypnotist in this scenario. You begin or the other person begins a conversation. Let's assume, the other person says, “It is so hot! I don't think summer will ever end!” You come back with, “I absolutely agree, it is very hot, isn't it? It probably isn't ever going to get any cooler, is it?”

With your agreement of the “It's so hot!” statement you created a bit of confusion in the other person. What they were expecting you to say, was more along the lines of, “Yes, just a few more weeks of this and we'll be feeling the cooler air."

Now that you have created the confusion, you implant a simple suggestion. You have an opportunity to give a different view point. You might say something like, “You know it isn't hot year round? Many days the weather is quite nice?” The other person more times than not will agree with you, which means they are now saying the exact opposite of what they originally said.

Don't rush covert hypnosis because if you try “scripting” it, the other person will know what you are doing, it needs to be very natural. However, with practice, you can learn how easy it is to get your kids to clean their room or your spouse help out with chores just by using your words correctly.
