About Drain Cleaning Tools
There are many different drain cleaning products on the market that are available for DIY drain repair. You can purchase these inexpensive plumbing tools from most hardware or home improvement stores. If your drain has become clogged due to build up of food particles, hair, grease or other debris you can easily unclog the source of your blockage without having to hire an expensive plumber to do the job for you.
Plumbing Snake
You can purchase a plumbing snake at your local home improvement or hardware store. A plumbing snake is often called a snake auger. This is a long metal rod that is designed to remove the source of the blockage from your drainage pipe. Insert the curved end of the long metal rod into your drain and continue feeding it through until you have located the source of the blockage. Turn the handle in a clockwise motion to apply pressure to the clog and remove it. Run the water for a few minutes once the clog has been removed so that it can flush the debris out of your drainage pipes.
Plunger
You can easily remove many drain clogs with a standard household plunger. All you need to do is apply the surface of the plunger to the surface of your drain ensuring that there is a proper seal between the two. This seal will allow the plunger to force the water down into the drain pipe and help to loosen the debris that is causing the problem. You should continue plunging numerous times until you have successfully cleared your drain clog.
Water Jetting Tools
Many plumbers use water jetting tools to remove stubborn blockages found in drainage pipes. You can purchase a water jetting attachment from your local home improvement store that will hook up to your standard garden hose. Attach the water jetting tool to your hose and then insert the hose into the nearest sewage opening to the source of your blockage. The pressure of the water is often able to forcefully remove clogs in your drainage pipes.
