About Entry Doors
The entrance of your home is one of the first things everyone who visits your home notices. Fortunately within the past few years entrance doors have blossomed into a wonderful collection of choices and options. What should you be looking for? There are things that help guide you in your decision.
Entry Door Types
There are basically three types of entry doors for homes and businesses. Those would be wood, fiberglass, and steel. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. The type you choose should fit your individual needs and they all come in a variety of styles and colors.
Wood Doors
In wood doors your best bet is to go with solid wood doors. They are good at resisting wear and tear and not prone to denting. Repair of scratches is fairly easily done. Their main problems are that they are expensive and require regular maintenance to keep looking as good as they can.
Fiberglass Doors
These doors are the most popular choice in doors today. They are practical and inexpensive. They can be purchased with a smooth surface, or with the look of a wood grain texture including the edges of the doors. These doors advantages are that they wear better than steel and can be painted and stained. They require virtually no maintenance. Once big disadvantage is that they can crack under a severe hit.
Steel Doors
The fact is that steel doors are almost half of the door market. They are relatively inexpensive and very secure doors compared to the wood or fiberglass models. Their advantages are that they are very energy efficient and require little maintenance. Disadvantages are that they don’t stand up to weather and while being low maintenance if they get a dent or a ding they are hard to repair and may rust if scratched and not painted quickly enough.
