Fabric Printing Techniques

About Fabric Printing

There are so many things that you can do with fabric painting. A lot of people will use fabric paint to enhance their clothing for a specific event, but what many people do not realize is that they can be using fabric paint to redecorate their home and accessories! You do not even have to be very creative, as you can find many patterns and stencils online to guide you throughout the way.

Basics

There are multiple fabric materials that work best with fabric paints. Cotton is the best fabric to use paints on, but you can also use canvas. Check the labels of the fabric paints for more recommendations to choose the right paint for the job.

Preparing to Paint

Make sure your fabric is smooth, as it will probably not turn out right if it has wrinkles or is not on a flat surface. If you are working with a thinner material, you can use paper or cardboard underneath so it will not stick to your work surface. You will also need paint brushes to complete your project, as well as a stencil if you plan on using one.

Clothing Decor Ideas

Many people choose fabric painting when they want to create a customized shirt. You can create a shirt for your child's sporting event to support the team, or even for a personalized gift for a friend or family member. They also work well in personalizing costumes for a school play or even Halloween.

Home and Accessories Ideas

There are many places around your home that you can use fabric paint on to give your room a new touch. You can create your own pictures to hang on the wall by purchasing a blank canvas from your local craft store and painting a picture if you are creative. You can also use it on curtains, lampshades, or even throw pillows.

Personalized Gifts

Almost all kinds of gifts can be personalized. Anything with fabric can be painted on, such as hats, shirts, purses or even making your own jewelry. You can wrap beads in fabric and string them on a necklace. Once the necklace is put together, you can add polka dots or stripes to the beads to create a pattern on a necklace.
