About Green Technology Jobs

Green technology jobs are careers related to the development of technology that recycles resources, uses renewable fuels and produce little or no pollution. This relates to alternative fuels, manufacturing methods that produce less wasted materials, and the reuse of resources that would otherwise be dumped in a landfill or in the ocean. Green technology jobs are considered to be the jobs of the future.

Solar Energy

Solar energy produces electricity and heating without the burning of natural resources or the pollution that is generated as a result. It is based on energy radiating from the sun, which will continue to provide this energy for billions of years. More energy reaches the Earth from the sun in a year than has ever been used by humanity. The job of solar energy experts ranges from engineers who research and develop more efficient solar energy panels, to installers who place them on rooftops and integrate them into office buildings or households. They are also responsible for designing and building solar power plants which can use the sun to deliver electricity to entire neighborhoods or cities.

Geologists

Geologists are experts in studying the makeup of the Earth itself. They study the Earth's crust and also help in the discovery of natural resources for industries to extract. Geologists' roles in green technology fields includes looking for the best spots for geothermal energy plants to be built. Geothermal plants use the Earth's internal heat to generate steam which creates power though turbines.

Recycling

Workers at recycling plants turn previously used materials back into usable resources. This includes recycling plastic, aluminum, copper, paper products, metals, and consumer electronics. Salvagers who deliver scrap metal and other materials for recycling also count as green technology workers.

Electric Cars

Automobile engineers and factory workers have begun to move into the green technology field with the production of electric cars. Electric cars burn no fossil fuels and waste no natural resources beyond those used to manufacture them. In addition, the technology currently exists to manufacture cars with recycled materials, typically from older cars that have been culled from junkyards. Technology is also available for solar energy experts to install solar panels on electric cars so they can recharge without plugging in.

Wind Farms

Engineers and construction workers in the green technology field are employed to build wind farms. Wind farms consist of large groups of high-tech windmills that use the wind to turn turbines that generate electricity.
