How to Make Handmade Hippie Clothes

About Hippie Clothes of the 1970s

The 1970’s was all about free love and showing you were an individual. The hippies “anything” goes philosophy was present in everything from their peace loving attitudes to their bright and vibrant clothing. The more outrageous the hippy style was the more they loved it. It wasn’t long before hippy designer clothes spread across the nation.

Tight Jeans and Bell Bottom Pants

Bell-bottom pants were all the rage as were the tight jeans and jumpers with the bell bottom legs. Bell-bottoms were popular enough that even Elvis was seen wearing them. Jumpsuits that were made of silk or denim were in and people flocked to the stores to get them. Capri pants and Angel sleeves were also worn by hippies and helped to create their unique sense of style.

Army Jackets and Huge Shirts

In reality, the hippie style was about being daring and in your face. Men wore faded army jackets and girls were often seen in big shirts and jeans. Girls also started wearing hot pants and V-neck shirts in the brightest colors they could find. They not only made a fashion statement they were making a personal statement as well.

Peasant Clothes and Mini Skirts

From one extreme to the other was invented with loose flowing caftans and miniskirts. The caftans reached to the floor and were big while the miniskirts reached to way over the knees and were tight fitting. As the miniskirts became shorter, the bikinis became skimpier to keep up with the trend. The 70’s became a mix of sexy and different and everyone enjoyed it.
