About Home Employment Scams
Working from home can seem like the ultimate job. To be able to roll out of bed in your pajamas, ditch the long commute and bring in a decent wage is truly a dream job. With diligent searching, legitimate home employment opportunities do exist, but there are also many scams to be aware of.
Thanks to the Internet, more companies have hired an online workforce and offer telecommuting as an option to working in the office. There are many catchy home employment jobs posted online every day. Some are legitimate, but before giving out your personal information, you need to be aware of scams. National home employment scams occur every day and some are disguised very well.
When searching for a home employment position it is vital to do your research before applying. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. This could include making large amounts of money instantly or rarely having to work, but still managing to bring in large sums of cash.
If a company offers you a position, but requires you pay a fee upfront before beginning, you should steer clear. The position most likely does not exist and it is a scam. Certain websites may offer a get rich quick program and quote people as testimonials. They state that you too could become rich, but first you must purchase a book, software or other information. Although, this isn’t necessarily a scam, you are unlikely to profit as the people advertised have and are probably wasting your money.
Another scam is when an offer of employment is made, but you must first divulge your personal information. This would include credit card, bank account or mother’s maiden name. This is a scam and you may very well become a victim of identity theft if you mistakenly provide this information.
Before applying to any position, it is wise to do your research. Find the company online. Read what others are saying about their experiences. There are a lot of great home employment forums online that can offer a wealth of information and advice. If there is a phone number provided on the employer’s job posting, call it. Check the companies rating on the Better Business Bureau website. Most importantly, trust your gut instincts. If you feel something seems too good to be true or you get a funny feeling then steer clear. There are plenty legitimate home employment opportunities available.
