About Home Water Damage Repair
Leaks, mold, mildew or any type of excessive moisture caused by water damage can be very problematic. However, there are many solutions to use as a remedy for these issues. Home water damage repair does not have to be a tedious task and often times there is no need to hire a professional to repair the damage.
Water damage to walls or woodwork:
- Living in a home where there is water damage to the walls or woodwork can be a serious issue because it can cause rotting to the structure. This is caused by not having enough insulation during the cold seasons. To repair this issue, the proper insulation has to be installed and a barrier is needed in the surface of the wall.
- When plaster or sheet-rock becomes eroded, it is due to leakage, bad plumbing or poorly installed barriers. This type of home water damaged can be repaired by repairing the leaks and installing a vapor barrier.
- A wet foundation is caused by high levels of humidity or insufficient waterproofing in the basement area of the home. The best way to repair this problem is to place a dehumidifier near the foundation.
Water Damage to the basement:
- Basement leaks can occur whenever there is an overflow with the plumbing in the home. To repair this type of water damage, all plumbing issues need to be fixed immediately or chances are the piping will eventually become damaged and then the homeowner could face the chance of having other areas flood as well. Check all sinks, toilets and washing machine for problems.
- Flooding of the basement can be hazardous to the health because standing water can cause molding which affects the respiratory system. To repair, clean gutters on a regular basis, waterproof the foundation and have a professional to re-grate the soil underneath the home.
Water damage to windows:
- Frost, mist or mold on the windows are caused by moisture and can damage the frame of the window. To repair this, install flood windows.
- If leakage or erosion is taking place underneath the windows, it is due to having an insufficient amount of caulking. Reapplying caulking will normally take care of it.
