About Italian Interior Home Design

Italian interior home design reflects the taste of the homeowner more than it follows traditional trends.  Things have become much more simplified over the past few decades.  Now design favors unique, beautiful pieces that are both functional and attractive in nature instead of simply collecting and displaying showpieces.

  • Simple pieces that are both elegant and comfortable are used in the living room.  Antique couches are not commonly used because they are not very comfortable.  Whenever they are used they are placed in an area where they are more for visual effect than functional purposes.  Leather sofas and chairs are commonly used.

  • Most Italian homes are filled with natural colors.  Bold, dramatic colors are not often used.

  • Kitchens used to be very neglected whenever it came to their interior design.  Today this has changed and the kitchen is now thought of as a family room where everyone gathers to prepare a meal.  The focus is upon appliances and workspaces.  Knicknacks and decorations are not used because they don't serve any purpose in the kitchen.

  • Bedrooms are filled with Italian tradition.  This includes antique headboards that are both ornate and huge.  It also includes beds that are made out of either brass or iron.  These antique pieces are combined with contemporary design.  For this reason, Italian bedrooms are usually very big.

  • Bathrooms are thought of as a sanctuary and thus their interior design showcases this.  There is a focus on both health and beauty within this room of the home.  In order to create a bathroom with Italian interior design you will want to build your own private oasis or spa that caters to your needs.
