About Mental Health Awareness
Mental health awareness has become a very important endeavor to many companies and people. The stigma that is often associated with a mental health disorder has led to advocates trying to make people more aware of what a mental health disorder actually is. Mental health awareness helps a person to realize that those who suffer from a mental health disorder contribute just as much to society as someone who does not have such an affliction.
History of Mental Health Awareness
The month of May every year is mental health awareness month. This movement started in 1949. Mental health awareness was started to bring awareness to everyone about mental health disorders. Mental health awareness is geared towards teaching about diseases such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other mental health afflictions.
Why Mental Health Awareness is Important
Mental health awareness is important because it aspires to teach everyone about what a mental illness is and what it is not. A main goal for mental health awareness is to correct all of the misinformation about mental health diseases that still are believed today. Understanding mental health is important for everyone whether he or she suffer personally from an affliction or if just know someone who does. It helps to make sure that people are more understanding, patient and teaches them different ways to cope with the diseases.
Whom Mental Awareness Helps
Mental awareness is meant to help every single person who has ever been or will ever be impacted by a mental health disease. For some people that may be themselves who suffer from depression or anxiety. It may be someone whose mom or brother suffers from a disease.
