About Mental Health Jobs in the Navy
There are several options available for mental health jobs in the Navy. All of them involve offering guidance and support for Navy personnel at some of the most difficult times in their lives. Some of the options available include clinical psychologist, clinical social worker and Navy chaplain.
Clinical Psychologist
Clinical psychologists in the Navy can work in a variety of places such as hospitals, clinics and aircraft carriers. They may work overseas or abroad. A clinical psychologist helps those who are serving in the Navy cope with issues ranging from stress and depression to family problems they may be experiencing due to separation. Clinical psychologists in the Navy also provide therapy and support for issues that arise from being involved in or close to war. They also assist former Navy personnel in getting acclimated to life back at home.
Clinical Social Worker
Clinical social workers in the Navy help those who are under great stress due to their current circumstances such as deployment, being apart from family and recent trauma. They offer guidance and counseling for military personnel and their families, and offer resources for dealing with a wide range of issues from psychological to substance abuse.
Navy Chaplain
Chaplains in the Navy may work on ships and Navy bases at home or overseas. They offer advice to those who are experiencing difficulties both emotionally and spiritually. Chaplains offer moral support and counseling to individuals serving in the Navy, provide spiritual guidance and conduct religious rites and ceremonies.
