About Military Dependent Scholarships
It's a numbers game to win a scholarship to college. Few scholarships are a free ride to college, so as a military dependent, it's up to you to find as many military and interest specific scholarship applications as possible for which to apply.
When it comes to finding scholarship money, it's truly a numbers game. The more scholarships you apply for, the more money you'll hopefully bring in towards your education. If you are a military dependent, it's important that you explore the options that are available specifically to children of the military as there will be less competition and more avenues for you to explore.
Some things to remember about the scholarship application process for military dependents include checking your deadlines ahead of time. Read the instructions thoroughly and follow them to a tee. Millions of dollars in military scholarship money goes unused every year because applicants don't apply on time and don't fill out the applications properly.
If you didn't apply for a scholarship while in high school, don't despair. Most of the scholarships will allow you to apply for grants and aid up until the age of 23 when applying for military type programs. Still others are applicable for even the spouse of a military member. Keep in mind that even though you're a military dependent, grades, leadership qualities and financial need are still often criteria in winning a scholarship.
If you want to go to college, it can happen, but you've got to make the effort to go after those scholarships. Start early and apply to as many scholarships as possible to make your educational dreams come true.
