About Model Making
Models are made as a way to translate an item or object into a three dimensional small scale. Model making has been used as a step in the thinking process for those who produce different items, such as buildings. An abstract idea can be illustrated physically through models. Many different materials are used to create scale models.
Types of Models
Some popular model types are toys, electronics, home appliances, cars, planes, trains, architectural designs, office products and even food items. There are skilled as well as amateur model makers. Skilled model makers use their abilities to translate drawings into models that resemble the finished product. There are models especially for children and there are more advanced types for adults. The adult type models can be used in a professional capacity, or as a leisure hobby.
Materials
The materials used often depend on the form of model or the design requirements. A number of apparatus include polyurethane foam, plastic, acrylic, foam that is of high- density and Ren-Shape among other materials. Clay and wood are also popular in model making. Unique one-of-a-kind models often require a lot of time to complete. Most of the work that goes into the models is done by hand, while some models, like cars are sold in kits.
Rapid Prototyping
Models can be created using complex computer programs. The idea or concept for the model is translated to a three dimensional computer representation and the information is used in the creation of a 3D print, which is transferred to a support material. Rapid prototyping uses advanced processes, which require skill. Using this process, model makers are able to create complex details. The process between design and production is more efficient and cost effective when the model accurately reflects the prototype.
