If you are a certified teacher, the opportunities for you online are virtually endless. There is a variety of teaching positions available and the greatest part is you never have to leave the house. More and more high schools are making education available online. If you have taught high school before or are certified to do so, this is an excellent opportunity. Many colleges also offer certain courses online. If you have experience teaching college students and are well versed in a particular subject, this could be the opportunity for you. If you are an elementary teacher or looking to make a little extra cash on the side there are many tutoring positions available online. Teaching ESL courses to students overseas is another great online opportunity.
Online education jobs offer a very flexible schedule and could be held in conjunction with your full time teaching position, depending upon your contract. Due to time differences across the country and sometimes even the globe, you will need to have flexibility in your schedule or work odd hours. This could include early mornings or late nights. Some employers online may require that you are available to teach a certain number of hours per week. Others may require that you be available for a set number of hours per day.
Teaching online courses requires a great amount of familiarity with computers. You should be able to upload and download files, have working knowledge of most computer programs and be able to effectively use the Internet. Knowing how to work a web cam and hook up external hardware is important as well.
Online teaching positions do not pay as well as regular teaching positions. Most range from $10-$15 per hour and do not offer benefits. A few rare opportunities do exist where benefits may be available, but it is not the standard.
If you are computer savvy and possess experience teaching, taking your knowledge online is a wonderful decision. You have the power to impact lives from the comfort of your own home.
