About Paramedic Training
Being a paramedic can be an exciting job, becoming a paramedic however is difficult and exhausting. The course takes two years and the things you must accomplish to graduate depends on the state that you live in. If you last in the program, it is worth it.
Become a EMT before a Paramedic
Most states require that you be an EMT before you can become a paramedic. Although they are not the same job, you must be an EMT before you start the program.
Paramedic Training
Paramedic training in some states takes only a year, while in others it takes two. However, many states are going to the national curriculum, as they need it for accreditation. In the classroom, you will have courses such as anatomy, physiology, cardiac function, medications and other aspects of the human body.
Clinical Training
While the emergency room is the main focus of a paramedic’s clinical training, they will also train in local hospitals and nursing homes during their clinical rotation.
Ride Time Training
When the paramedic starts doing ride time training they will ride with either a local ambulance service or the paramedics from the fire department. They will get to perform in person under the watchful eye of their trainer all of the things that they have learned in class.
Continued Training
Training to be a paramedic doesn’t end even after you graduate and go to work. Many states require that you take monthly classes in continuing education and get many certifications in order to keep your paramedics license.
