About Six Flags Amusement Parks

Six Flags is a common name among amusement park fans. With over 21 different parks and 2.3 million guests served each year, it is likely that most people have attended one of the parks own by Six Flags. Known as a place for fun and thrills, Six Flags is a roller coaster ride of successes and failures.

The first Six Flags amusement park opened in 1961 in Arlington, Texas. The name was derived from the six flags that have flown over the state of Texas throughout its history: Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the Confederate States of America and the United States of America.

Six Flags became the new home for Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and other Looney Tunes characters when, in 1984, the company purchased the rights to the Warner Brothers Looney Tunes characters, who would represent the parks throughout the country.

Although the Six Flags Corporation claimed bankruptcy in 2009, it successfully restructured each facility to function independently of each other. Mr. Six, a feeble old man wearing a tuxedo, red bow tie and glasses, would align all the parks back together in 2004 as he danced his way into the hearts of new generations of amusement park fans.
