About Tailored Dress Shirts
Many men prefer to dress up for their jobs or like to wear a dress shirt with jeans for a semi-formal affair. There are a few different styles of dress shirts for men with variations of white as the most popular color.
Men's tailored dress shirts come in different styles for different occasions. Some have two pockets while others have no pockets and are a tighter fit. Tailored dress shits for men are custom fit to the man rather then purchased off the shelf.
Custom Fit
When a man requests a tailored dress shirt, he is not purchasing it 'off-the-rack' but having it made to fit his body and his alone. When purchasing a dress shirt in a store, they are made for a range of men's bodies. For example, the neck size could be between 16.5 and 19.5 inches or more. On a smaller man, the shirt would hang or gap in places, on a larger man, a dress shirt that is not tailored to fit him would stretch and look to small.
Sleeves
Men's dress shirts have short sleeves or long sleeves and a man will choose them according to weather conditions or his person preference. The short sleeve dress shirt style has the sleeve stopping at the elbow. The long sleeve style of dress shirt will have cuffs at the bottom of the sleeves, around the wrists. These cuffs will typically have two buttons that match the buttons running down the front of the garment.
Buttons
All men's tailored dress shirts will have buttons up the front with matching, smaller buttons on the cuffs if the dress shirt is a long sleeve style. There will also be smaller versions of these buttons at the collar, to hold it down, unless the shirt is a collarless style.
Monograms
Men's tailored shirts could be monogrammed slightly above the breast pocket. The monogram could be two or three initials; however, three is the traditional style. There are different fonts to choose from for monogramming a tailored shirt depending on how expensive the material is or how dressy the shirt seems.
