About Taxi Services

Using a taxi service is an easy and convenient way to travel to different places. You may need a taxi if you are visiting traveling and do not want to rent a car. Taxi services can be found in many metropolitan areas and are used as a method of transportation that can take people to airports, hotels, restaurants, work and many other venues.

  • The easiest way to get a taxi is by hailing it. Hailing is typically a hand gesture, which requires you to stick your arm out and wave at a taxi approaching you. Once the taxi stops you, get in and tell the driver the address of where you want to go.

  • The two types of taxis are vans and cars. The most common taxi is a taxi car, which typically seats only four passengers. If there are more than four people, you may need to use a taxi van to travel. These vans can seat six to ten people. You may be required to call ahead if you need a van at your location.

  • Taxis measure your fare by using a meter. The meter keeps track of the amount of money you have to pay. You are charged either by mile or by minute, which varies by the each taxi company. When it comes time to pay, generally the driver will only accept cash, though sometimes they may accept credit cards.

  • One way to reduce the cost of a taxi ride is to share the fare. For instance, you could share the fare with someone who is going in the same general direction or location that you are heading. When you share the fare, you are typically splitting the cost of the ride between the passengers.
