About Thai Massage Schools

Thai massage school values emanate from the values and principles of Thai Buddhism and the practice of yoga. These two practices combine the human dynamics of physical, spiritual, mental and emotional blending and influences the curriculum of Thai massage schools. Thai massage schools all over the United States and elsewhere advertise that their massage classes are based on the original holistic Thai massage message.

How Thai Massage Schools Function

Practicing Thai schools train students to work with customers in a holistic manner, while at the same time considering the health and well-being of the therapist. Students who wish to become Thai massage therapists require no prerequisites. However, they must complete the bodywork curriculum. Emphasis is laid on students first becoming efficient practitioners before they can become instructors to practice Thai massage principles. After completing bodywork courses, students are awarded certificates.

  • Additional coursework includes clinical Thai bodywork courses in three separate areas'

  • A minimum of one year of professional practice.

  • Certification agreement documenting bodywork completion and the student's responsibilities for the certified teacher relationship.

Level One Training

Level one emphasizes the fundamentals of body mechanics. One hour is used to teach and show students how to study Thai massage, and the program prepares the student for more Thai bodywork.

Level Two Training

Level two stresses therapeutic basic principles with the use of style techniques. This training level teaches students how to use Sen Lines and trigger point technology to handle specific client needs. Preparation for level three training also begins in this class.

Level Three Training

Level three adapts Thai style sequences that involve intermediate stretches, backbends and lifts. This training level also prepares students to study advanced stretches.

Anatomy for Thai Massage and Yoga

Hands-on palpation is taught by instructors. Students learn about approaching muscle locations, function and stretching, and those who already have a solid background in human anatomy will not be asked to pursue the Thai anatomy coursework.

Injuries to Thai Massage Therapists

Thai massage therapists do suffer hand and other injuries while dispensing therapy to clients. Thai massage schools note the importance of keeping therapists and patients equally healthy and base their treatments on that premise.
