About World Radio
World Radio is a unique network that is part of the slate of stations available to subscribers of Sirius XM satellite radio. World Radio is unusual because it integrates the streams of over a dozen international radio stations to provide one comprehensive news source.
Where to Listen to World Radio
Indeed, the name of the network is appropriate for several different reasons. Most of all, like all satellite radio stations, it is able to be heard anywhere in the world. This is because the signal is not land-based like traditional radio stations. Rather, it is projected from the Sirius satellite directly to its customers. Because Sirius XM is a subscriber-only service, you must own a Sirius XM receiver and pay a monthly fee to listen to World Radio. As of 2011, World Radio is station 120 on the Sirius XM system.
Programming on World Radio
World Radio is also aptly named because of its programming. Unlike traditional radio news, which comes from one source, World Radio takes programming from many different news organizations. This gives a true worldview to the news. Popular programming on World Radio includes Radio Guangdong from China, Radio Netherlands and the Voice of Russia. Each of these networks import one or two shows into the World Radio broadcast schedule. For a complete listing of programming available on World Radio, you can refer to the station schedule which is located on the Sirius XM website or check the display on your radio tuner.
