About the Patchwork Quilt Activities

The Patchwork Quilt is a story about a young girl who has pieces of fabric from different parts of her life worked together into a quilt that also combined her family's heritage and life. This story and activities that can be played are good ways to show the value that each piece of a person's life has.

Patchwork quilts are a great way to show people that the details of a person's life or the small pieces of a quilt make up the bigger picture. Each and every piece of fabric that is included in a quilt makes it a part of a larger purpose, which s to create a large quilt. This is a good lesson to learn about the significance of each and every person's life and activities in their life and the impact they have on the world as a whole.

The Story in a Fabric

Each fabric can tell a story about a person's life and experience. Have each person bring a few items of clothing they have kept over the years to symbolize a significant event in their life. This could be a piece of fabric from their baby's first outfit or a piece of fabric from their wedding dress. Smaller events in a person's life can also signify a great prescience to that person. A piece of fabric from the special jeans that a girl was wearing for her first kiss can be very sentimental. These are all great ways to create a marvelous patchwork quilt that has great sentimental value.

Community Patchwork Quilt Project

A community patchwork quilt can be made from different squares brought in from different people. Having each person bring in enough squares to make a 12 x 12 section of the quilt is the important part. After each person finishes sewing together his or her portion of the quilt each 12 x 12 section can be sewn together to create a larger community quilt. This can be in remembrance of someone special or to pay tribute to a small town's group of soldiers who are fighting in a war. This can be a great way to bring a community together and make a beautiful quilt.
