Acrylic House Paint Guide
Once you have decided to paint the house your next decision will be what type of paint to use. Price will determine what kind of quality you will get and how long it will last as well. Make certain you get a 100 percent acrylic paint and it will serve you well for a long time.
Outdoor Paint
The constant improvement of all acrylic latex paints both in primers and finish paints has made them usable in all common outdoor house painting situations today. The only truly situation where you should not use an acrylic latex paint is if you are trying to cover an existing alkyd or oil based paint with it. As of yet even the newest acrylic latex paints are not designed to cover existing oil paints.
Availability of Paints
These newer paints are available in a myriad of flat, satin, semi-gloss and eggshell finishes. Picking a shiny latex paint for example such as a satin or semi-gloss reflects lots of light but is very easy to clean. Also just the opposite is what happens when you use a flat paint in that it normally will reflect less but cannot be cleaned as easily either.
Deck and porch paints
The use of acrylic latex as a porch and deck paint was almost never done before. Now it is commonly used in both of these situations and more. It is slowly taking the place of oil-based paints that were almost exclusively used in these situations. Due to the environmentally friendly nature of these paints and their increased durability they have become very popular. Whereas oil based paints that release alkyd fumes are becoming increasing more and more subject to air quality regulations from the government.
