How to Find a Drug Addiction Treatment Center

Addiction Treatment Types

Addiction treatment types differ depending on the severity of the addiction. However, the principals behind treating addiction are the same fundamentally, helping the individual learn to live a full life without their addiction. The types of treatments include outpatient and inpatient treatment with several goals set when the patient enters the program.

Outpatient Treatment Option

An outpatient treatment program means the patient is not staying at the facility during their recovery treatment. This works best for those that have a good support system and truly have the desire to kick their addiction. In addition, it is designed according to individual needs, for instance, someone with multiple addictions, may need to meet several times during the week for group and individual counseling. Family members also take part in the recovery process since they are the ones that live with and interact with the patient on a daily basis.

The 12-Step program is very popular and is often used for outpatient treatment. Most of these treatment centers treat many different addictions such as drugs, gambling, and drinking, to name a few.

Inpatient Treatment Option

Impatient treatment is more intensive and typically for those that are heavily addicted to drugs or alcohol and need to be medically detoxed. The patient is separated for a period of time and given medication to help them through their withdrawals. In addition, many people that need inpatient treatment have hit rock bottom with their addictions and they have completely taken over their lives. After detox, they are put in group and individual counseling and stay at the treatment center for a specified number of weeks. Typically, when patient completes the inpatient treatment, they will then enter and outpatient program to help them stay sober or clean.
