Adult Learning Game Ideas
Teaching adults is not at all like teaching children. Children learn something new with every lesson. Adults on the other hand will know much of what you are trying to teach and already have preconceived ideas about the subject or already instilled barriers to accepting it. It helps a great deal to teach them with games to help them experience the lesson.
Informational Games
Commonly known as ‘trivia,’ this is a game that most adults like to participate in and it is also a great way to broaden their knowledge at the same time. If you desire them to learn a specific area you can put them in small groups and let them compete against one another answering questions based on that area. You can use any format to do this such as certain TV shows that they most likely watch anyway.
Accomplishment Games
These types of games are often used to make adults learn how to get along with one another in order to solve problems as a team. These will help them to understand that it takes leadership and trust to achieve a goal of some type. You tell them they need as a team to do a certain project and give them nothing to do it with. In that situation they will have to figure out how to do the job and manufacture what they need to accomplish the task. Once these goals have been completed they can then discuss among themselves how they did it and what that tells them about their group. This can be very enlightening.
Acting Out Games
These types of adult games are to help them understand the importance of non-verbal communication and the need to think critically in situations. One very popular game is where the instructor picks out volunteers from the group. The instructor then tells them what situation they are involved in such as a student and a teacher in a classroom having a disagreement. The two picked would then act out the situation until the instructor would then tell them to freeze. At that time the two would have to remain motionless until the instructor gives them a new scenario upon which they would begin again. The challenging part of this type of game is that the two individuals in the scenario cannot talk at all; they have to just act out the scenario based on each other’s cues.
