How to Clean Antique Kitchen Cupboards

Antique Kitchen Decorating Ideas

There are many different ways to create an antique look in your kitchen.  Antique items can be found at estate sales, thrift stores and antique stores.  Searching for the perfect antiques to add to your kitchen is almost as fun as seeing the kitchen after it is complete.

Antique Items

Some of the best places to shop for antique items are thrift stores, antique stores and estate sales.  Great antique pieces to look for include antique plates, cookbooks, tea sets, blue speckled enamelware, colored enamel pots and canister sets.  Other antique items to look for are egg beaters, salt and pepper shakers, butter molds, tin bread boxes, colored canning jars, tin signs, milk bottles, mixers and butter churns.

Decorating Ideas

Begin by covering the table with a vintage style tablecloth.  Look for a vintage table runner and napkins to complete the look.  If there is a window in the kitchen, try hanging curtains printed with cabbage roses or calico print.  There are a number of things you can hang from the walls in your antique kitchen.  Good ideas include antique plates, vintage aprons, tin signs and antique pots.  Choose a vintage tea set or stack vintage cookbooks in the center of the table.  Group several clean milk bottles together and use them to hold fresh flowers.

Tips

Decorating a kitchen with antiques can be as simple as adding a few antique pieces.  An old tin breadbox would look great in the corner of the room, and is great for storing bread or other items.  Use vintage canister sets and colored canning jars to store food or other items in, and keep your counters free of clutter.
