Arts and Crafts Decorating Ideas

If you like to do arts and crafts, you may consider decorating your home with some of your projects. Making your own home decorations is cheaper than buying them and very rewarding. You could knit or sew pillows, make decorative sculptures or create wall-hangings.

Pillows

Decorative pillows are an excellent way to add a homey touch to your living room or bedroom. You could hand-sew a pillow case and then place a pillow form inside, or just stuff it with some fiberfill. You might consider making a patchwork pillowcase or a pillowcase with some fancy embroidery on it. If you do not like to sew, consider knitting a pillowcase instead. You can use wool, cotton or silk yarns for a different look. If you use a looser stitch, use a pillow form for the inside of your pillow. If you produce a denser fabric, you can stuff your pillow with fiberfill.

Sculpture

You can make a variety of home decorations using sculpture. You could make something functional, like a vase or a bowl.  After you create your vase or bowl, be sure to use them! Put some flowers in the vase or some potpourri in the bowl. Or, you could make something purely decorative. You could make small sculptures that sit on table tops, but you could also consider making a larger, free-standing sculpture.

Wall Hangings

Decorative wall hangings are a great arts and crafts decorating project. You could knit an intricate lace wall hanging or create one from embroidery. You might also be interested in macrame, which is a craft that involves knotting string to create patterns. Consider making a wall hanging in a color that contrasts with the decor of the rest of the room to make it stand out.
