The duties of a technician in auto collision repair vary from one day to the next. This is simply because the degree of damage done to each vehicle depends on the severity of the collision it was involved in. Some of the work they are responsible for completing includes replacing parts of the vehicle that cannot be repaired, painting, repairing dents and straightening car frames that are bent.
Other duties this type of professional may include repairing broken windshields and realigning the frame of the vehicle when it has been thrown off balance. The type of machine they use is powered by hydraulic pressure, in order to realign the vehicle so it can run properly.
In order to enter into the auto collision field, it is wise to participate in formal training. Although it is possible to enter into the field with a high school diploma and no experience, many employers prefer some experience or at least the completion of a certificate program. Technical schools all over the country offer specialized training in auto collision repair where you get hands-on experience and are prepared to pass certification tests. Once you complete these requirements, you then become a certified automotive technician.
