Auto Shop Safety Activities
An auto repair shop of high quality should pride itself not only for its high standard of work, but also for its employee safety. Adherence to all OSHA and state safety regulations are a must for any well ran auto shop. Cleanliness, constant updated training and a professional attitude are essential for a safe working environment.
Auto shop owners and supervisors should make sure that their employees are well trained in all safety aspects. This includes the guidelines set by the Occupational safety and Health Agency. By following the OSHA rules, employees and employers can better protect themselves and the shop if any lawsuits concerning safety are filed.
Most safety practices are preventive in nature. Auto shop employees should wear proper clothing in the work place. This would include protective eyeglasses, gloves in certain cases, protective footwear, and long pants. Safety guidelines also require that any spilled liquids such as oil, radiator fluid, grease, water, or solvent be cleaned up immediately.
Safety activities should be a priority for any auto shop. Refresher training courses should be a constant for all employees. Auto body repair shops should keep their employees aware of the guidelines and standards that are set by the Environmental Protection Agency with regards to paint fumes and air quality.
Since auto shop employees also work with many different power tools, it is very important that they have complete concentration on their work. Proper rest and nutrition are needed for the employee to be sharp both mentally and physically. Working in an auto shop can be a demanding occupation and all safety measures should be adhered to at all times.
