Backyard Patio Designs With Hot Tubs

Hot tubs can offer a wonderful way to unwind and relax after a long day at the office or they can a focal gathering point for friends and family. Yet there are a few things to keep in mind before taking the plunge and adding a tub to your deck.

  • Space. The installation of a hot tub requires on average a space of roughly 12x12 feet minimum and should be placed so that it is not on display to the neighbors or passing car traffic. It should also be within easy access of a home entryway like sliding doors and be placed away from areas of heavy foot traffic. The largest problem you face is being able to get in and out of the tub without getting pinched by the traffic of friends and family.

  • Privacy. There are many kinds of privacy screening available. If your hot tub will be within view of the road, then you may want to consider a deck screen with siding or latticework through which you can thread plants to avoid the eyes of passersby.

  • Foundation. A hot tub should be placed on a level slab, which is itself on top of undisturbed soil. This prevents accidental tipping or sliding as well as making later removal or replacement easier on the homeowner.

  • Design. It can be quite cozy to flank your hot tub with benches and surrounded by a privacy screen. If you want additional seating around your hot tub, make sure you provide enough room to add and remove them.

  • Safety. If you are a parent of small children, or if you have friends or family over frequently who have children, then your hot tub will need to be equipped with a locking lid to prevent access and the potential for accidental drowning.
