Basics of Window Washing
Cleaning your windows on a regular basis allows you to allow more light stream into your house and it increases the aesthetic value of your house. You can accomplish this by using common household items from your kitchen as well as a little bit of elbow grease. For best results, you should wash your windows at least twice a year.
Items Needed:
- Dish detergent
- Vinegar
- Water
- Spray bottle
- Paper towel
- Newspaper
- Combine a 1/2 teaspoon of dish detergent, 1/4 cup of vinegar and two cups of water in a spray bottle.
- Spray the solution onto a window and wipe clean with a paper towel.
- Dry with a newspaper. Use a new piece of paper with each wipe to prevent ink from being left behind on the window's surface. Newspaper will absorb the water quickly without leaving streaks or residue.
General tips for cleaning windows:
- For optimal results, use warm water.
- To help avoid streaks, avoid cleaning the windows when the weather is hot or the sun is shining directly on the windows. The heat will dry the solution more quickly and will result in more streaks.
- In order to identify which side of the window may have streaks, wipe in the opposite directions on each side. For example, if you wipe horizontally on the inside, then wipe vertically on the outside.
- Wear gloves to prevent your hands from smelling like vinegar.
