Becoming a Young Artist

Becoming a young artist takes time and energy. Art is often a feast or famine type of career. If you're trying to make it in the art world, starting young is the best way to accomplish this. You'll want to spend some time getting experience and using different techniques if you want to make it in this challenging career.

Becoming a young artist isn't an easy task. However, if you are able to pull it off the rewards will be great. You will need to put effort in to this in order to make it happen.

Take some classes. Even if you are already proficient in one area, you may want to take some classes so you can understand the concepts of other forms of art. For instance, if you primarily work in the field of expressionism art then you may want to take some classes on abstract or impressionism. This will give you a broader area to pull from, even if you don't end up doing a lot in that area.

Experiment with different forms. You may love working with watercolors and never even considered switching. If you take the time to experiment with different modes and forms you'll be a much more diverse artist. The diverse artists have a much easier time becoming a young artist who is taken seriously. Look at other forms such as sculpture and printmaking.

Build a portfolio. Start working on a portfolio of your best artwork. Once you have the portfolio you can start trying to build relationships with the different galleries in your area. You may not get an exclusive show right away, but having a piece or two of your art showcased in a few different galleries will help you gain exposure.

Understand the industry. Many artists find they can cross into other careers easily with an art background. You may not make a living with your artwork at first. But if you spend some time expanding your knowledge into mediums like print, graphic design and web design you can take the creativity and actually do something with it. You don't have to do this forever. It's just a good starting point for a young artist. Once you get your name out there you can enjoy income with the art itself and slowly back away from the other mediums.
