How to Find the Best Publishers

Best Publishers for New Authors

Being a new author does not mean that you have less talent than a seasoned writer.  It means that you are looking for creative ways to get your works published.  All publishers have editors looking for new and upcoming talent; therefore, your main hurdle is to tower above the massive amount of competition.

Research

Browse new and used bookstores for books that fall into the genre and type of book that you would like to publish.  Record the names of the publishers and the editors for later research.  This will help you gain insight into the publishing companies and editors.  You can review companies’ websites on the Internet for details about how to submit your work for review.

Types of Publishers

There are professional publishing houses that pay for writing accepted by an editor.  There are self-publishing outlets that publish your book for a fee, and there are open-licensed publishers that share work in the public domain for free.  Self-publishing outlets also referred to as vanity publishers, advertise to new writers that have yet to be published.  It is important to note that while you are aloud to sell your self-published books, you do not make royalties on the book because the self-publishing companies do not sell or distribute your works.

Create Contacts

Some writers find it helpful to enlist the services of an agent.  Agents submit query letters and manuscripts to publishing companies on the writer’s behalf.  Some large publishers only accept samples of work submitted by agents, therefore; your book may have a greater chance of review by an editor if he or she is familiar with the agent.
