Best Ways to Repair Damaged Hair Without Cutting It

Our hair is a living piece of ourselves, and we sometimes forget to handle it with the care it deserves. When this happens, it shows it's damage through frizzy, limp or brittle appearance. When hair becomes distressed and damaged and cutting it is not an option, these are the best ways to repair that damage for good.

The hair on our head gets mistreated through overuse of a hair dryer, flat irons, curling irons, or even just the chemicals in the air. When the hair becomes damaged, we look for a way to repair that damage without having to take a pair of scissors to it. These are the best ways to repair that damage at home and add the body and shine back into your hair.

  1. This is a great way to repair damaged hair and add shine. Pick up a bottle of vitamin E oil, which can be found at any drugstore. If a bottle of vitamin E cannot be found, but the gel caps can, you can open up the gel caps and squirt the vitamin E out from inside. If using the gel caps, it should only take about 6 to 8 caps to get the amount of oil needed, otherwise just use a palm full out of the bottle of vitamin E. To apply, dampen the hair in the shower but squeeze out excess water so it's damp, not soaked. Take the vitamin E and work into the hair, concentrating at the ends. Use your fingers to really work it through your entire head of hair. Once you have applied it, let it sit on your hair for 10 to 15 minutes while in the shower. The steam from the shower will work with the vitamin E to moisturize and repair the damaged strands of your hair. Once the time has passed, wash and condition as usual. You can even take a few drops of the vitamin E and add it to your shampoo and conditioner for an added benefit.

  2. Another way to repair the damage to your hair is to apply this homemade hair mask. Once a week for a month, this homemade hair mask should be applied in order to get the best benefits out of the repair process. In a bowl, mix together one egg yolk and three tablespoons of olive oil and apply to dry hair. Make sure to get the ends, as that's where the split ends are producing the damaged look. Let it sit on your hair for 20 minutes, then wash the hair mask out. You can use plastic wrap or a plastic bag to wrap around your hair and keep it up and bound together while waiting for the mask to work it's magic. This will keep it from making a mess on your clothes or dribbling around the house.

  3. This is another great way to repair hair damage, as well as remove that dry, frizzy look hair can experience once in a while. This hair mask uses 1 cup of mayonnaise, 1/2 an avocado and a few drops of olive oil. Mix this concoction together until well blended. It may sound gross, but applying this mayonnaise mask directly to damp hair, especially at the ends, will infuse a lot of much needed oil and moisture into damaged hair. Leave the mayonnaise mask on the hair for 10 minutes, then rinse and wash as normal. This mask can be used anytime your hair begins to feel too dry, limp, or takes on a mind of it's own and doubles in size with frizz.
