Flies are one of the pests that can spread diseases and also be annoying. Here are some ways we can try to trap them and/or repel them from our homes. You can use fly paper, it gives the best results when it is in direct sunlight. Just make sure you do not get the fly paper on your clothing because it is so sticky that it will be hard to get off of you. You can also use citronella candles and torches, citronella grass is what this oil is obtained from. You can use UV bug lights, it has the ultraviolet light that attracts insects and then destroys them with a high voltage current. Repellants that have deet are very helpful in repelling flies, but make sure you don't use it on your skin, not on your clothes.



To avoid flies in your home if you have pets, make sure you clean up after them when they eat, especially dogs and cats. Make sure your garbage bags are tightly sealed and taken out to the outside trashcan. Some people believe that you can also use basil plants to repel flies away. Minimize the amount of water you use in flower pots and other containers so that the insects cannot breed on it. Trim your lawn to get rid of biting flies. And put the fly traps and fly papers on the inside of your home near the lights but not too close to the ceilings.



Hopefully these ways to trap and repel flies will help you to keep your home fly free. Make sure that you also manage decaying organic matter from your home as well. There are foggers and pyrethrin treatments you can use as well but, are not recommended because it can be harmful to your health, so it is not the best way to remove flies.
