Car Polish VS Car Wax

Who wants their car to look as shiny and new as the first day they got it? Cleaning the car inside and out can help achieve that fresh, new look. However, what comes next after washing the car? Does the car need to be waxed and then polished or is waxing the same as polishing? This guide will explain the difference between polish and wax.

Car Wax

All auto care experts will agree waxes that contain the product carnauba will work the best to provide the perfect shine. Carnauba is a wax of the leaves from the carnauba palm. It is obtained from the leaves by beating the leaves to loosen the wax, then the wax is refined and bleached. Popular car wax brands that contain carnauba include TurtleWax and Zymol brands. Car wax is used to fill in surface perfections, such as small scratches or swirls. Due to the fact that car wax does not contain solvents, it will provide a smooth durable finish. However, because wax builds up over time, dulling occurs. Typically waxing a car should be done every few months.

Car Polish

Polish can remove any oxidized paint or smooth imperfections in the paint. Wax lays the layer of protection to the paint, whereas polish removes material on the paint. In turn the finish of the paint will be smooth, which means a shinier surface. Top car polishes include Zaino, which features Show Car Polish. Zaino is applied with a cotton towel and removed with a separate towel. Zaino will leave the car with a "wet look" paint finish.
