Health promotion and wellness professionals help to change their client’s lives for the better. A career in the health promotion and wellness field requires professionals to spend a large amount of time working with clients. Educational requirements depend on the job and the job duties. There are a few skills needed, no matter the job is. These skills include public speaking, ability to teach and good communication skills.
Natural Health Consultants
Natural health consultants specialize in educating people about medical alternatives to traditional healthcare treatments. Consultants may focus on type of alternative therapy, like chiropractic work, nutrition or acupuncture. Typically, natural health consultants work with clients by assessing the client's patients symptoms and health concerns, make treatment plans and provide alternative health information. Most people working in the field have bachelor's degrees in areas like naturopathy, nutrition, herbal science, natural health and acupuncture.
Health Educator
Health educators work with clients to encourage healthier lifestyle habits and increase a client's well being. Health educators strive to prevent injuries, medical conditions and potential health problems like obesity, heart disease and diabetes. Most health educators teach clients in groups or one-on-one settings and assess their needs. Educators teach clients about nutrition, preventive care, sexually transmitted disease prevention and exercise. Most educators have at least a bachelor's degree, but many have a master's degree in their chosen field.
Dietitian
Dietitians are nutrition professionals specializing in educating clients about the importance of nutrition. Eating well can help to prevent disease, maintain a healthy weight and improve overall wellness. Dietitians create meal plans and oversee preparation of their client's meals. They may work in a healthcare setting, school setting or with individual clients. Dietitians must have at least a bachelor's degree in nutrition studies or dietetics.
