Common Alterations Needed by Women
A women looks best in great fitting clothes. Unfortunately clothes off the rack do not always have the best fit. If you find a beautiful piece of clothing that doesn't fit properly, you can easily have it altered by a seamstress or tailor.
Hemming
The sizing of women's clothing does not always take into account the height of a woman. A shorter woman may have the problem of finding pants and full length dresses that are too long. This is easy to fix. A seamstress or tailor will have you try the garment on and they will pin the hem. After finding the right length they will sew the hem, giving you a perfect dress or pair of pants.
Repair of a zipper or rip in the fabric
Zippers are common on many types of women's clothing. When a zipper becomes stuck or broken you do not have to toss that piece of clothing. It is easy to alter clothes by putting in a new zipper. The same goes for a piece of clothing with a rip or a hole.
Taking a garment in
If you find a beautiful item of clothing that is a size too big, or if you lose weight and you r clothes hang loose, you can have your clothing altered to be smaller. A seamstress or tailor will open up the seams and take in the extra material so it fits you perfectly.
Letting a garment out
If you gain weight, or want to purchase a pair of pants on the rack are a size to small, a seamstress or tailor can alter items to make them a size bigger. They may be able to do this by letting out the seams or by adding extra fabric panels.
