Community Activities for Children
Keeping children busy is one way to keep them active and away from watching television too much. There are many activities that children can get involved in their communities. These activities will help them become better citizens in the community, stay fit and learn to work well with others. Individuals living in small communities can even start special activities of their own to get others involved.
YMCA
The YMCA, often referred to as the Y, is a great organization that has special sports and activities for young children. Many children go to the Y to learn how to swim and participate in other types of sports. Many of the locations have a gym where the children can play basketball and other types of sports.
Visiting Senior Citizens
Many churches have committees in the church that take time to visit the sick and shut in. This is a great opportunity to get young children active and caring for someone other than themselves. It teaches them the benefits of helping others, some committees arrange it so young individuals may drop off a fruit basket and help the senior citizens out for a few hours a day.
Reading Groups
Many libraries have special days where someone can read to a group of young people. You can have your child sign up at their local library to become a person that shares the gift of reading once a week. Many young children look forward to these days, especially during the summer when they may have nothing to do.
Writing To Troops
Young children can join or create a group to write letters of appreciation to the men and women serving their country. Some children can write to specific soldiers if they have their address and military information. It is a great way for children to recognize the wonderful things the men and women in service do for their country.
