How to Extend a Concrete Patio

Concrete Patio Ideas

Most homeowners scoff at the idea of a concrete patio because of the fear that it will give a drab look to their landscape. The truth is that with some creative landscaping techniques and updates, your concrete patio can be the envy of all your neighbors.

Staining

Most homeowners are familiar with staining decks, but few know that you can do this to concrete as well. Adding a stain to your existing concrete will give it new life. The first thing you need to do is clean the patio off with a bleach and water mixture. Mix a quart of bleach to a gallon of water and pour it over the patio. Let the mixture set for an hour and then rinse it off with a garden house. Once the patio is clean, check for any bad patches. If you notice any bad patches in the concrete then you should use a darker stain to hide the blemishes.

Paving Stones

Another idea for sprucing up the look to your concrete patio is by creating a stone path with pavers. You can choose to design your path going towards the patio or leading away from it. It should be noted that this is a lengthy project that may take up several of your weekends. It may take longer than that if the weather does not cooperate. Once you are done, however, you will be left with a finished product that will give a lovely entry way to your patio.
