Continuing Education Programs for Occupational Therapists
There are many different fields of occupational therapy. Because of this, there are many different courses that can be counted toward continuing education credits in that field. Most employers prefer that you take courses that are applicable to the job; however, some courses are just necessary to have as being a good occupational therapist.
- First Aid and CPR: No matter what type of occupational therapy you practice, these are good courses to take when it comes close to your CPR and First Aid card expiring. These courses are a safety precaution that are nice to have, even if you never need them. This is especially true if you are working with the elderly or small children.
- Children: In every field of occupational therapy, you may have to work on small children or infants that have not fully developed their bodies. When working with children, you have to handle them differently than you would a full grown adult that understands what you are doing and knows how to perform such tasks. Courses related to children in your field could be helpful, especially if you see a lot of child patients.
- Naturopath options: With all the latest trends toward a healthier nation, many people are turning to naturopathic options to help heal themselves instead of traditional medicines that can have several side effects, sometimes worse than what it was curing. This course is helpful for anyone that prescribes medications.
- Sports medicine: This is a popular subject as most every area has players that are getting hurt. Learning techniques to help players from injuring themselves as well as options to help heal quicker are all things that players want to know so that they can get back into the game.
