Cost of Hostels
A hostel is an alternative for travelers to board at instead of the high price of a hotel room. Hostels are usually dormitory style and offer you a bed, pillow, bathing facilities and blankets. The cost of hostels vary depending on what type of room you are staying in and how many people will be boarding in that room.
Most hostels have an age requirement of 18 years old unless you are staying with a parent or guardian. There are both pros and cons when staying in a hostel, make sure you know all the facts before going this route so you can decide if this would be a good option for you and your family.
Prices do vary but you should expect to pay no more than $45.00 per person/per night. The average cost of a decent hostel for a student is usually around $15.00 -$20.00 per night. The cost of hostels is also dependant on the city or country that you are traveling to. Larger cities tend to be more expensive than smaller towns, or towns that are on the outskirts of larger tourist areas.
Most hostels are a great choice for students who are "backpacking" it. Don't expect anything fancy when boarding in a hostel. You will have all the basics that you need plus many offer things above and beyond your basics. Be sure to carry cash with you because not all hostels will accept payment in the form of a credit card. Be sure to know the rules of the hostel that you are staying at. A lot of hostels have a curfew and lock the doors at a certain time of the night. Learn your curfew and don't be late. Although a stay in a hostel is not for everyone, it is a great alternative for students looking for an inexpensive way to travel.
