Cures for Severe Athlete's Foot

Cures for Athlete's Foot

The never ending itching and burning of athlete’s foot can make a person miserable. Without proper treatment, the foot fungus can get out of hand and spread to other parts of the body. Several treatment methods can be used to kill the fungus.

Over-The-Counter or Prescription Anti-Fungal Creams

Visit a local drug store and purchase an anti-fungal cream or athlete’s foot treatment. Doctors can also prescribe stronger creams for more severe cases of the fungus. These creams or sprays just need to be applied a couple times a day to eventually take care of the fungus infection. A person’s feet must be cleaned with body soap and water and completely dried before each treatment for best results.

Oral Prescriptions

When an athlete’s foot case becomes very severe, ask the doctor about turning to an oral anti-fungal. The pills can and should be avoided by practicing proper foot hygiene methods. Athlete’s foot curing pills have been shown to cause liver and kidney problems.

Antibiotics

This type of medicine is usually used in more severe athlete’s foot cases. Antibiotics that rid the foot of fungus come in both topical and pills forms. Antibiotics are normally only prescribed if a bacterial infection is found along with the fungus.

Wearing socks

While socks are more of a preventative measure for athlete’s foot, they can help keep feet dry to keep the fungus from spreading. People that have sweaty feet are more prone to the fungus. Always wear socks inside shoes. The dirt inside of shoes can worsen the condition.
