Custom Car Painting
Custom car painting requires proper tools, lots of time and patience. Paint for custom cars comes in a wide variety of colors and finishes. The prep work takes the bulk of your time. Spraying the color and clear coat requires the least amount of time, but the most amount of care.
Painting your custom car cleanly finishes up all your design and customization work. If you are handy with a sander and spray gun, you can complete all work yourself. Spending a couple of days sanding and preparing the surface for paint will pay off in the end. A properly prepared surface helps the paint bond faster for a more durable finish.
An application of body filler to dents and other imperfections provides a smooth surface. Once the paint is applied, all imperfections will be highlighted. Wipe down the car with a clean, soft rag to remove all dust particles. Completely scrub the vehicle with a dry Scotch-Brite pad prior to taping. Newspaper makes a great drop cloth when taped to the edges of the windows of your custom car.
Pick a color that coordinates well with your interior color. Decide on a finish such as matte, low gloss or high gloss. Add metal flake to create a metallic finish that glistens in the sun. Alternatively, a special additive can make your paint have a pearl like finish. Finish work includes pin striping and vinyl graphics if you choose.
Check your local laws to see if spraying in your garage is legal. Many states require that professional ventilation systems be installed before spraying your vehicle with paint. To avoid costly fines, rent a paint booth to spray your custom car.
